CDM Smith | April 02, 2015
When CDM Smith, a global engineering and construction firm, set out to relocate from 50 Hampshire Street in Cambridge to 75 State Street in Boston, their project team knew that they would have to get creative. The new headquarters, comprised of 120,000 SF spread out over six-floors was to be completed within a seven-month schedule.
The design team at Margulies Perruzzi Architects and general contractor, Structure Tone, committed to the tight schedule and looked to Strategic Workspaces to design, manage and install a prefabricated wall solution using DIRTT interior construction. The DIRTT solution allowed for minimal site disruption and rapid installation, enabling the project team to compress the construction schedule from six months to three months. Strategic Workspaces provided approximately 5,000 linear feet of DIRTT wall- complete with electrical and audiovisual integration, partnering with Colonial Systems to install all six floors of DIRTT wall in just five weeks.
With the success of the Boston project, CDM Smith has standardized on the DIRTT solution for their interiors throughout the country. The SW team has continued to compress construction schedules with DIRTT at CDM Smith’s Los Angeles, North Carolina, Kentucky, New Jersey and Pennsylvania locations.
Strategic Workspaces’ CDM Smith project team includes Nick Borseti, project executive, Adam Mueller, senior project manager and Jill Gaboury, senior interior designer.
